VANALCO SWITCHYARD
Vancouver, Washington

OWNER—VANALCO
Vancouver, Washington

TriAxis provided transmission lines and switching station design for a large industrial facility owned by VANALCO. This project consisted of a new 115-kV transmission source and a 13.8-kV distribution source to an existing industrial facility. The project was designed to replace two existing high-capacity 13.8-kV feeds to the facility.

Design features included:

  • An eight position 115-kV 420 MVA capacity ring bus with two incoming overhead line positions and six underground 115-kV feeder positions.
  • A 2000-amp bus design with 63kA rated circuit breakers.
  • Primary and backup bus differential schemes for each of eight positions. Backup over-current relaying on feeder positions.
  • High speed pre-trip signaling to each of the 115-kV feeder loads.
  • All switching station relays have communications between relays and plant PLC system.
  • Relaying included a complex load shed scheme with multiple feed and configuration scenarios.
