FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS

TriAxis maintains licenses to specialized finite element analysis software. Both 2D and 3D capabilities are available. 2D modeling has been used to examine transient and steady state thermal behavior of underground cables using Quickfield. Quickfield has also been used to examine inductive coordination for communication facilities and to investigate the coupling between parallel transposed transmission lines. FlexPDE provides 3D modeling capabilities and has been used to examine the thermal behavior of underground cable crossings with complex geometries. TriAxis has used CASPOC, a Spice-based modeling system, to investigate transients during capacitor switching. In addition to using specifically designed engineering software packages, our engineers can develop specialized analyses using standard software packages. One TriAxis client needed a quick assessment of system behavior with multiple switched capacitor banks. Using fundamental engineering principles, TriAxis was able to quickly develop a simulation of the capacitor switching using Excel. The model verified phenomena measured in the real system, provided the client with a solid understanding of the underlying principals, and aided in identifying possible solutions.
