We can assist developers of both large and small wind generation projects with preliminary utility interconnection concepts that include preliminary layouts of facilities and construction cost estimates. We help developers to sort through all requirements of the interconnecting utility, such as:

• Power factor requirements and metering

Design and Construction:

TriAxis has developed standard design methods, features, and equipment specifications that translate into lower cost and higher value, without sacrificing reliability. The economics of wind energy projects motivate the project developer and the designer to carefully fit equipment ratings to the operating conditions. We have found that important present-worth project economies can be achieved through careful attention to the following design aspects:

• Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) step-up transformer specification
• Cable specification and cable ampacity design
• Power transformer specification
• Power factor control design

The owner’s requirements for collection system sectionalizing can also significantly affect installation cost, maintenance cost, and system reliability.

Typically, TriAxis is engaged as the developer’s electrical system designer. With this style of project delivery, TriAxis develops complete bidding documents including plans and specifications. We assist with the bidding process by distributing bids, conducting a pre-bid meeting if necessary, answering questions, preparing addenda, and evaluating the bids. Alternatively, TriAxis can function as the electrical contractor’s designer in turnkey (design/construct) projects.
