BIGLOW CANYON PHASE III 34.5-KV

Wasco, Oregon
Owner: Portland General Electric

This 34.5-kV, 4-wire, grounded-Y, double-circuit overhead line is 6 miles long and was built with polymer horizontal post insulators and single-wood-pole structures. It included two large double-circuit tubular-steel-pole line-angle structures. The conductor is one 1590 kcmil AAC Coreopsis conductor per phase, carrying a peak load of 60 MW per circuit. There’s an OPGW (fiber optic shield wire, 48 fibers) for the entire line. The 34.5-kV getaways from the Biglow Substation are with overhead single-circuit wood pole construction using reduced tensions. TriAxis was responsible for complete design including preparation of construction specifications, and the construction contract schedules. TriAxis provided engineering services during bidding and construction.
